The Sunday letter
A weekly letter that looks back and ahead, and a monthly look-back on the 1st.
- Time
- About 30 minutes
- New this module
- Nothing new. You choose when the letters arrive.
- You'll need
- Modules 5 and 7 done, for the full letter (it works without money, just shorter)
- In Claude Code, you'll type
/butler-setup letters
The morning brief is about today. Two longer letters help you think about the bigger picture: a weekly letter on Sunday afternoon, and a look back at the month on the 1st.
There’s nothing to install. You’ll choose the timing, preview both, and learn to answer your butler’s questions.
Lesson 9.1 · 10 minutes
Preview the weekly letter
What you’ll do: choose when the weekly letter arrives, and preview it.
Steps
- In Claude Code, in the Butler folder, type:
- Claude asks which day and hour you’d like the weekly letter. Sunday at 5pm is popular: you’ve had the weekend, and the week hasn’t started.
- Claude previews it. The letter opens in your browser.
- Read through it. The weekly letter has:
- The week in numbers, with small charts.
- Bills coming up in the next 60 days.
- Spending that’s creeping up compared with recent months.
- The week ahead, person by person.
- Ideas to save or earn, from Claude, based on your numbers.
- Questions about transactions your butler couldn’t place.
- Where each project stands.
Lesson 9.2 · 10 minutes
Answer your butler's questions
What you’ll do: learn how to answer the “Q-” questions in the weekly letter, so your butler learns where your spending belongs.
How it works
When your butler sees a payment it can’t place, it asks about it in the Sunday letter with a short code. An invented example:
Q-2026-41-1 · €180 to “MBWAY J SILVA” on 8 October. What was this?
You reply in plain words:
Q-2026-41-1 was the plumber, Home
Your butler adds a rule, so future payments to that payee go to Home automatically. You’ll be asked less and less each week.
Try it
If your letter preview had a question, reply to the next real letter with your answer. If it had none, well done: your categories are already in good shape.
Lesson 9.3 · 10 minutes
The monthly look-back
What you’ll do: preview the monthly look-back and decide whether to act on its suggestions.
Steps
- Ask Claude to preview last month’s look-back:
- It has:
- What got done: project steps completed.
- Where the time went, from your calendar.
- Where the money went, by category, against your plan.
- Budget suggestions based on your trend, such as “Food has been over plan for three months; consider raising it to 750.”
- Budget suggestions are suggestions. To act on one, ask Claude in your Butler folder: “Raise Food to 750 in the budget.” Claude edits the workbook and runs the checks.
