Graduation

A household butler that works for you, and the skills to build the next thing with AI.

Nothing. You're done.
You'll need
  • A week of your butler at work

You did it. You built an AI butler for your household, on your own Mac, with your own data. Most people who use AI every day couldn’t do what you just did.

This last module is a celebration, a look back at what you learned, and a look ahead.

Lesson 12.1 · 5 minutes

Ask your butler how it's going

What you’ll do: ask your butler, by email, about its first week.

Steps

  1. Reply to your butler’s latest email:

How did this week go? What did we get done, and what’s coming up next week?

  2. Within five minutes, your butler answers by email, from your calendar, projects and money.

  3. Forward it to someone who said you’d never get this working.

What you now know about AI

What you’ll do: look back at the AI ideas you met along the way. You now know more about using AI safely than most people.

  1. AI models predict words. They’re brilliant with language and can be confidently wrong. (Module 1)
  2. Context is everything. Give an AI the right facts and a clear job. (Modules 1 and 4)
  3. Agents act, so permission matters. Keep a human in the loop for anything important. (Module 1)
  4. Skills are playbooks. Written instructions make an AI reliable. (Module 2)
  5. Most of a good AI product isn’t AI. Use plain code for everything that must be exact. (Modules 2 and 5)
  6. Secrets never pass through the AI. Passwords go into the Keychain, not the chat. (Module 4)
  7. Prompt injection is real. Text from strangers can carry instructions, so give the AI nothing to steal and no power while it reads. (Modules 4 and 6)
  8. Least privilege. Every part gets only the access it needs. (Modules 5 and 11)
  9. Claude proposes, code acts. AI understands the request; strict rules decide what happens. (Module 6)
  10. Never let AI do your sums. (Module 7)
  11. Some data should never be sent to an AI. (Module 8)
  12. Feedback loops make AI better, when you can see and approve the changes. (Module 10)
  13. Fail gracefully. Plan for the AI part not answering. (Module 10)

What's next

What you’ll do: choose where to go from here.

Keep your butler sharp

  • Run /butler-tune once a month.
  • Answer the Sunday letter’s questions.
  • Run /butler-doctor if anything looks off.

Go further

The advanced modules teach your butler new jobs: meal planning, home maintenance, a trip planner, caring for aging parents, a side business, and teaching your butler a new skill of your own design. Several need no new software, just the lessons.

Help the next household

  • Tell us what was hard. The “Something didn’t work for me” button on every lesson goes straight to us, and it makes the course better for the next person.
  • Tell a friend who’s scared of tech. You were too, maybe.
  • If the course saved you some hours, you can buy us a coffee.
